Crowd Simulation includes in-depth discussions on the techniques of path planning, including a new hybrid approach between navigation graphs and potential-based methods. For most of the applications of crowds, it is now a requirement to have real-time simulations – which is an additional challenge, particularly when crowds are very large.Crowd Simulation analyses these challenges in depth and suggests many possible solutions. The importance of gaze attention – individuals appearing conscious of their environment and of others – is introduced, and a free-of-collision method for crowds is also discussed.. Research into the methods and techniques used in simulating crowds has developed extensively within the last few years, particularly in the areas of video games and film. Despite recent impressive results when simulating and rendering thousands of individuals, man

… Algorithms and illustrations accompany the text throughout. From the reviews of the second edition:“A wide variety of applications require effective techniques and solutions for developing crowd simulations. … Students who might be considering a future in simulation and virtual narratives will find this book informative and inspiring.” (Alyx Macfadyen, Computing Reviews, September, 2013) . This second edition surveys techniques, discusses issues and applications, and concludes with case studies

However, most of them focus on the dragon robes and accessories of the imperial court. This book is excellent because it ties in the subtle interface between Manchu and Han Chinese dress, from the imperial family, through the mandarins to the common people. I am rereading it for the third time now.. The book proper is 80% (about 210 pages) and I did find myself losing track of time to continue reading the story. I would have also loved to have seen a box on the Shanghai Y-10, a most unusual Chinese attempt to build a long-range jet airliner, using spare engine pylons and engines from the 707-3J6s it ordered in the 1970s.The appendices at the end of the book give a detailed rundown on performance statistics, how many 707s and 720s each operator ordered, first flights and records, and hull losses. Wow, this is an old purchase I completely forgot about. While acknowledging the substantial cost savings, he is not blind to the other side of the equation. They have been deflated, and as a result, the whole story falls short of the standard of literature set by Larsson. Especially since these murders
